PHHS Community Service Information

Dear PHHS Families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!

For the past two years, alternative community service projects were suggested and allowed in light of the pandemic. Beginning September 1, 2021, those alternative projects will no longer be accepted to fulfill graduation requirements. Instead, students can choose opportunities that will expand their interest by participating in rewarding activities that will encourage them to be responsible citizens, promote selflessness, and foster their personal growth while giving back to their community. Please be reminded that community service must be completed at a non-profit agency and not by working "for free" for a business. Students must serve 80 hours of community service (20 each year= .25 credits) as a requirement for graduation from PHHS. Below is more information on what qualifies as community service.

What qualifies as community service?

  • Community service hours must be completed at a non-profit organization.
  • A student may volunteer for a single organization or at a variety of organizations.
  • Students are encouraged to complete their hours in areas related to their personal interests.
  • Paid experiences do not qualify.
  • Working without pay at a business, your job, or for a family/friend business does not qualify.

If you need more information on how to submit community service hours or need additional assistance, please visit the PHHS Counseling website or contact one of the Counselors for more assistance.
